Ratehub’s take
If you regularly shop at Metro or fill up your gas at Shell, this rewards credit card could be a good option for you. However, the points earnings from this card are low for a rewards card, and there are fewer Air Miles partners now after the program was restructured. Dream Miles are generally worth more towards travel purchases, so if you’re planning a trip, you could choose to collect more Dream Miles than Cash Miles.
Pros
- Earn bonus rewards at Air Miles partners: You can earn three times the points for spending at Air Miles partners, and quadruple your points on gas purchases at Shell if you also have a ShellGO+ membership.
- Customize your earnings: You can decide how much of your points will go to redemptions for cash at the checkout, or for Dream Miles towards travel purchases. You’ll need at least 95 Cash Miles for $10 off in purchases, so they are worth 10.5 cents—which is good value.
Cons
- Limited redemption options: Unless you are a frequent shopper at their partner stores or gas stations, it might be hard for you to get the most value
- Lower base earn rate: The base earn rate of one Mile for every $12 spent is very low relative to other rewards cards
- Higher annual fee: After the first year, you’ll be charged a $120 annual fee, which is relatively high for the lower points earnings rate you get with this card
