Meet Our Mortgage Specialist
What did you do before you were in the mortgage business? Any odd jobs?
After university I worked at a couple of banks, London Trust and then Equitable Trust for a couple of years before I got into the mortgage business.
Fill in the blank. ‘If I weren’t in the mortgage business, I’d be _____’
If I weren`t in the mortgage business, I`d be managing rental properties.
What first got you interested in the mortgage business and how long have you been in it?
The mortgage business has been in the family for about 13 years. My dad and uncle are both involved in the business and I used to work for them in the summers while in school as a teenager.
Why do you think you’ve been able to achieve success? What do most mortgage brokers find the most challenging about starting in the business?
I think the biggest factor is putting the customer’s needs first. This involves getting them the best deal and educating them about all the different options that are available to them. The biggest challenge when starting in the business is learning all the different lenders and which lender is most suitable for each type of mortgage.
What’s your mortgage motto?
The customer is always right. Don’t argue with the customer.
Your Success Story
Your biggest mortgage success story. Have you been able to save a client $$ thousands?
There have been a number of clients with bad credit who I helped fix their credit rating and get a mortgage.
Have you ever helped a client escape a horrific situation?
I think there are a number of stories that I could chose from. Most of them involve saving people from losing their homes to foreclosure. I do this by helping them restructure their loans to get them back on track in their payments.
What’s your personal mortgage product? If you are living with a partner, how did you decide? Was it a battle?
We have a variable mortgage and the decision process was left up to me. It was just based on the trust for the experience I’ve had within the business.
What’s the biggest mortgage you’ve ever closed? What did you do with the commission?
The biggest mortgage I ever closed had a value of one million dollars and it was for a doctor. I put the commission into my own mortgage.
Your Business And The Brand
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I see my business rapidly growing and expanding. I have a number of realtor referrals currently but I want to increase the number of customer referrals. I want my business to be almost completely referral based in 5 years.
How do you market your business and brand?
The answer to this is plain and simple: Ratehub.ca
What’s your favorite thing about Ratehub.ca? How does Ratehub.ca help your business?
Ratehub.ca makes my life a lot of easier as I can focus on getting my customers the best deal I can and not worry about advertising as Ratehub.ca takes care of all that. The customers that are sent to me are almost qualified buyers and the benefit of not having to worry about attracting these consumers saves me a lot of time!
Fun Details
When you take a break from helping clients, where can we find you?
You could find me at home playing video games with my kids
Who’s your ideal mortgage client?
I generally prefer first time homebuyers as they listen the most and try to absorb all of the knowledge that is required when financing a mortgage. I like clients who can appreciate my advice from the years of experience that I have.
