TD credit card changes in April 2025: More rewards coming your way

TD has announced a slew of exciting changes to several of its credit cards. Come April 30, 2025, many of TD’s rewards cards and cash back cards will see improved earn rates, new earning categories, and even a new perk for its top travel credit card.

Here’s what you can look forward to if you hold a TD credit card, or are planning to get one.

New earn rates for TD Aeroplan, travel rewards, and cash back credit cards

TD has added several new earning categories to its credit cards. For instance, if you drive an electric vehicle (EV) and have been lamenting the lack of rewards for EV charging, cards earning rewards on gas purchases have now been updated to include EV charging purchases. The transit category has also been added to some cards.

The points for recurring bill payments, or what TD calls PAP (pre-authorized purchases), now include streaming and digital gaming and media purchases, too. That said, note that the existing spend caps for earning rewards have not changed — you can find the detailed list of changes for each TD credit card here.

TD rewards and travel credit cards

Credit card Earn rates
(changes in bold)
TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card 8 TD Rewards Points per $1 spent on travel bookings on Expedia For TD

6 TD Rewards Points per $1 spent on groceries, dining, and public transit

4 TD Rewards Points per $1 spent on recurring bill payments, streaming, and digital gaming & media

2 TD Rewards Points per $1 on everything else
TD Platinum Travel Visa* Card 4.5 TD Rewards Points per $1 spent on groceries, dining, and public transit

3 TD Rewards Points per $1 spent on recurring bill payments, streaming, and digital gaming & media

1.5 TD Rewards Points per $1 on everything else
TD Rewards Visa* Card 3 TD Rewards Points per $1 spent on groceries, dining, and public transit

2 TD Rewards Points per $1 spent on recurring bill payments, streaming, and digital gaming & media

1 TD Rewards Point per $1 on everything else

Our calculations show that TD Rewards Points are worth $0.005 on average — about 50% to 80% of other rewards programs. The higher earn rate of these cards makes up for this, so TD cards are still an attractive option if you like earning rewards.

TD Aeroplan credit cards

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card 1.5 Aeroplan points per $1 spent on gas, electric vehicle charging, groceries, travel & transit, and dining

2 Aeroplan points per $1 spent on Air Canada products
TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card 1.5 Aeroplan points per $1 spent on gas, electric vehicle charging, groceries, and Air Canada products
TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum* Card 1 Aeroplan point per $1 spent on gas, electric vehicle charging, groceries, and Air Canada products

The only addition to these cards is the addition of electric vehicle charging as an eligible points earning category. That said, the Aeroplan program is one of the best valued rewards programs in Canada if you’re a frequent flyer with Air Canada — and Aeroplan co-branded credit cards will get you there way faster while making every trip more comfortable.

TD cash back credit cards

Credit card Earn rates (changes in bold)
TD Cash Back Visa Infinite* Card 3% cash back per $1 spent on groceries, gas, electric vehicle charging, public transit, recurring bill payments, streaming, and digital gaming & media

1% cash back per $1 on everything else
TD Cash Back Visa* Card 1% cash back per $1 spent on groceries, gas, electric vehicle charging, public transit, recurring bill payments, streaming, and digital gaming & media

0.5% cash back per $1 on everything else

Getting cash back on your purchases is the most straightforward way to get rewarded — and the addition of these new earning categories, especially for the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card, places it among the best cash back credit cards.

A new perk for the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite Card

As a travel rewards credit card, the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card has often lost out to competitors due to its lack of airport lounge access. Holders of this card can now rejoice since TD has finally included complimentary Visa Airport Companion Program membership to the card, along with 4 free lounge visits per enrolment year.

The catch: Increased interest rates and fees

All these positive changes come at a price, albeit a small one: all these cards will see an increase in interest charges and various fees.

  • Annual Interest Rates on purchases and cash advances: 20.99% → 21.99%
  • Only for residents of Quebec: Annual Interest Rate on missed payments: 25.99% → 26.99%
  • Increased fees on cash advances, balance transfers, returned payments, and inactive credit balances

If you pay off your credit card balance every month, these changes won’t have a negative impact on you. However, if you know that you tend to carry a balance, consider a low interest credit card instead.

The bottom line

TD’s credit card changes are not only good news for cardholders — they’re also upping the rewards game for credit card providers. That said, you should always choose the right credit card for you based on your lifestyle and never spend more just to reap rewards.
