Who is Apollo Insurance?
Matt Hands, VP, Insurance
Officially the company was founded in 2017, but Apollo’s launch in 2019 into insurance for small businesses was shortly after their $1 million CAD angel round of funding.
Their primary goal is to reduce lengthy application forms and wait times for insurance quotes, especially with the rise of complex new risks such as cyber breaches, natural disasters, and supply chain inefficiencies. Apollo market’s itself as the “leading online insurance company” because they can bind a policy online without the need to speak with a broker. In other words, they are digital, instant, and paperless.
In January 2021, Apollo insurance closed a $13.5 million Series A financing round. The financing came from Gravitas Securities, Trisura Group (international specialty insurer) and Liberty Mutual Insurance (the sixth largest global property and casualty insurer).
Apollo will use the funds to expand into personal insurance, which they did, by now offering home insurance, tenant insurance, and boat insurance.
Why choose Apollo Insurance?
Apollo is relatively new to the insurance game, though touts itself as the largest online insurance marketplace, and that’s because they are one of the most well-funded Insurtech (insurance and technology) companies in North America. Their platform, Apollo Exchange, allows insurance brokers, agents, and customers alike to purchase a policy immediately from their phone, tablet, or laptop computer.
Through extensive data and rich algorithms, they can provide insurance quotes and issue policies within minutes without human intervention. Apollo says they are redefining the distribution of insurance.

Apollo personal insurance
Apollo offers home and condo insurance in BC and Alberta, as well as renters insurance, and boat insurance across Canada. While still relatively new to the home insurance game, they’re making their impact felt on the home insurance competitive landscape. Here are a couple reasons you should consider Apollo home insurance.
Apollo insurance offers property and casualty insurance coverage for homeowners, tenants, condos owners, and seasonal property owners.
They also have developed additional optional coverages that you could add to your policy:
Earthquake - if you live in BC, or other earthquake zones, consider adding earthquake insurance to your policy. Your standard comprehensive home insurance policy does not include coverage for earthquakes.
Overland water - If you live near water, or worry about your home flooding from too much rain or melting snow, overland water will protect you. Without it, you don’t have coverage in your policy.
Sewer backup - If city main drains overflow after heavy rains or blockage, sewer backup insurance gives coverage if the sewer backs up into your home. It’s an expensive fix to clear the sludge and replace anything damaged.
Identity theft - Identity fraud comes with many hidden costs and Apollo covers you for things like lost income due to time away from work, legal fees, and enhanced protection for a credit or debit card.
