If you get mortgage broker Alex Fedortsov - RUN!!!!!! He was incompetent, unprofessional and has caused so many headaches for us since purchasing our home in June. First, his manner lacked any sort of professionalism or courtesy. He was rude and condescending on phone calls. He'd interrupt, cut us off and talk over us. Alex also made sexist comments to my husband about "how women are" in reference to both me AND the female underwriter working on our account (because she was being thorough). As first-time homebuyers, we expected a lot more support and explanation for how to go through the process. For example, we needed to move money from investments so that we could access the funds for our down payment. Alex reprimanded us for moving money into an FHSA (for tax benefits) and even threatened us that we could lose the deal if we moved anything around. He NEVER told us up front that we shouldn't be moving money around... If we hadn't moved the money, our funds wouldn't have been available to close our home on time. Next, he was not knowledgeable about the product. He didn't inform us about our property taxes being lumped in with our mortgage payment. Once we found this out, he claimed we could easily call ScotiaBank to change it after everything went through. However, ScotiaBank doesn't allow this for high-ratio mortgages - he should have known this! As a result, ScotiaBank didn't get our tax info on time and we had to pay late fees. He kept blaming paperwork errors on the fact that it's "busy" season. He spelled my name incorrectly multiple times, which caused major issues where I had to drive down to the bank to change it with them. If you can't handle busy season and do your job correctly, then maybe you should find another career. - Amy Grace
